Entertaiment is a complex activity that involves consumer engagement. It is understood objectively, communicates from an external source, offers pleasure, requires an audience and takes place in a passive form. It has the ability to change and evolve over time. It can be consumed at any scale from an individual who chooses to watch a TV show or play on their own, to a couple who eat a banquet designed for two.

It can take many forms, including the retelling of an ancient story like Scheherazade in music, film or games. It is also often a psychological experience, hitting on themes the brain was evolved to react deeply to such as backstabbing, murders and other social issues. Entertaiment stimulates the brain, releasing seratonin and dopamine.
